What are multi-layered tags?

Multi-layer labels refer to labels with one or more layers of ordinary paper or self-adhesive material of similar size and shape adhered to the front paper of the finished label, stacked together. Originally named Fix-A Form, it was developed by Danny Boros in the UK, combining self-adhesive labels with multi-layer booklets to address the problem of limited label printing area despite the large amount of information in product instructions. These labels come in various types, including double-layer backing paper, double-layer fronting paper, and multi-layer composite structures. Based on the production process, they can be categorized as peel-off and seal labels, dry peel-off labels, back-mounted labels, and booklet labels, primarily used in the pharmaceutical, chemical, food and beverage, and cosmetic industries.

Multi-layer labels are printed simultaneously on two rolls of material using rotary printing equipment. Folding and gluing processes are used to create the multi-layer structure. After die-cutting, some backing or front paper layers can be removed for repeated application. In the pharmaceutical industry, this technology can integrate QR codes, barcodes, and RFID technologies to carry production batch, date, and supply chain information. It supports interaction with warehousing systems to achieve full product traceability and improve product anti-counterfeiting capabilities and production management efficiency.
